Pheromone Solutions

Achintya is probably the only Company that offers one single formulation base matrix i.e., a Gel/Paste Base for all four applications – Monitoring, Mass Trapping, Mating Disruption and Attract & Kill – for managing a wide range of pest populations.

Pheromones, natural chemical signals used by insects to communicate, have emerged as an effective tool in agriculture, particularly for pest management. By disrupting pest mating patterns, pheromones reduce pest populations without relying on harmful pesticides, offering a more eco-friendly and precise approach to pest control.

Pheromones serve various functions in insects, such as attracting mates or signaling danger. In pest control, they are primarily used to confuse or mislead pests, preventing successful mating and controlling pest numbers. Common types include:

Pheromones are also classified on the basis of purpose for which they are used, such as:

Monitoring

To monitor in real time, how pest populations are building up in the farm/crop, so that based on a predetermined threshold level i .e., trap catch rate, further crop protection measures (such as a pesticide spray) can be taken up.

Mass Trapping

More pheromone traps are placed to trap more insects, so that pest populations are under control without using pesticide sprays.
Both these need insect traps in which pheromone lures are placed to attract the pest, whereas the following two applications offer more effective trapless solutions.

Mating Disruption

Wherein larger quantity of pheromones is applied, leading to confusion of the male insects regarding whereabouts of female insects, this preventing mating between them, leading to much lesser no of eggs being laid and so lower pest populations. In some cases, this method can lead to over 90% pest incidence control.

Attract & Kill

These formulations contain small amounts of pesticide in addition to the pheromone. Insects are attracted by the pheromone and pesticide kills them, leading to a good control.
